BIRMINGHAM, AL — Marking the end of a complex and rigorous process that began 14 years ago, O’Neal Steel has achieved ISO 9001:2000 registration, the industry standard for quality management, at each of its district and corporate operations. Twenty-six sites, representing a total of 29 different facilities are now officially registered. The locations cover the entire South, the Eastern Seaboard, and much of the Midwest.

O’Neal began preparing for its first ISO inspection in late 1994. By the end of 1995, the Birmingham and Louisville districts, as well as the company’s corporate functions, were all successfully registered. Since then, additional sites have steadily been added to the ISO list, culminating this June with registration of O’Neal’s Lynchburg, Virginia District.

ISO 9001:2000 is a process-based certification that links business objectives with operating effectiveness. Registered companies must demonstrate effective implementation of documentation and records management; upper management’s commitment to customers; establishment of clear policy, good planning, and effective resource management; efficient process control, measurement, and analysis; and a commitment to continual improvement. The designation signifies to customers,

suppliers, employees, and the community that O’Neal is dedicated to producing a quality product, providing quality service, and achieving customer satisfaction.

O’Neal Steel is the nation’s largest family-owned, full-line metals service center with annual sales of approximately $3 billion, headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama, and more than 80 locations in North America, Europe, and Asia.
