316 / 316L Tube

316 SS Tubing

Characteristics

316 / 316L stainless tube is available as round, square or rectangular shapes. It is available as welded and seamless. It contains additional molybdenum and nickel than 304 stainless, which increases corrosion resistance of the metal. Decreased weldability is exhibited in 316L alloys due to increased carbon in the alloy. It is used for tube in more aggressive environments than 304 tube.

Applications

316 / 316L tubing is used mainly as seamless for pressure operations in extremely corrosive environments, such as acid processing and waste treatment equipment and salt water marine applications. Welded tube is used for structural applications such as handrails, machine supports for processing equipment and architectural supports.
