Alloy is a carbon steel consisting of iron and carbon. Several other elements are allowed, with low maximum percentages. These elements are manganese, with a 1.65% maximum, silicon, with a 0.60% maximum, and copper, with a 0.60% maximum. Other elements may be present in quantities too small to affect its properties.
Due to its higher thickness, alloy plate is used for products that require durability and strength, but do not require the lower weight of a thinner metal sheet. Many of the alloy steels are easy to machine, stamp, and fabricate. It can be manufactured to precise tolerances.
